How a couples shoot runs

What to expect from a session with me

Most couples I work with haven't done a real photoshoot together before, and the first ten minutes feel a little stiff — that's normal. We start with prompts and movement instead of poses, and by the time we're warmed up the photos look like the two of you on a regular Saturday, not a stiff portrait setup.

I'll send a styling guide once we book — what photographs well, what to avoid, and a couple location ideas if you don't already have one in mind. Engagements, anniversaries, just-because shoots — same treatment. Want hair and makeup beforehand too? I do both, so it's one artist for the whole look.

Common questions

Asked & answered

Booking & timing

There are two options. The Spark is a 30-minute session at one location with two outfit changes and 50–100 edited images. The Connection is a one-hour session at two locations with three outfit changes and 100–150 edited images. Most engagement clients choose the Connection because it leaves room for variety — a softer indoor look, then golden hour outside, for example.

Your fully edited online gallery is delivered within two to three weeks of the session. You will receive both high-resolution downloads for printing — save-the-date cards, wedding signage, framed wall pieces — and social-sized files perfect for Instagram, your wedding website, and the announcement texts you will inevitably send to your closest friends.

My two packages are $300 for the 30-minute Spark and $550 for the one-hour Connection. Both include all editing, the online gallery delivered within two to three weeks, and high-resolution downloads for printing. Travel within ten miles of Crosby is included; locations beyond that carry a small travel fee starting at $20. Hair and makeup before the session is available as an add-on.

Before the session

It is completely natural to feel a little nervous walking into a session, especially if it has been a while since the two of you have been photographed together. I direct in gentle prompts and movement rather than rigid poses — small things like walking, whispering, dancing, asking each other a question — so within about ten minutes you will find yourselves laughing and forgetting the camera is there. The photos end up looking like a real Saturday with the person you love, not a portrait setup.

Yes, and you are far from alone in this. The whole session is built around movement and connection between the two of you, not on standing still and smiling at the camera. Some of the warmest reviews I receive come from the partner who walked in convinced they would hate it. If it helps, tell me ahead of time and I will adjust the prompts so the camera-shy half of the pair never has to lead.

Once we book, I will send a styling guide built around what photographs beautifully in Houston light. The short version is solid colors and timeless silhouettes over busy patterns or branded logos, coordinated rather than perfectly matched palettes, and textures like linen, knit, or lace that hold up to natural light. Bring two outfits for the Spark or three for the Connection.

Locations & extras

Anywhere meaningful to the two of you. I travel from Crosby across the greater Houston area — sunlit fields out toward Spring and The Woodlands, downtown rooftops, the Heights, Hermann Park, the beach at Galveston, your home, or the place where you had your first date. If you are not sure where to start, I will send a list of favorites that match the mood you are going for.

Most of my outdoor sessions happen during golden hour — the sixty to ninety minutes before sunset, when Texas light goes soft and warm and skin tones photograph beautifully. We will plan around your date and location to land in the right window. For studio or indoor sessions, time of day matters less, so we have more flexibility.

Yes — I am a licensed cosmetologist as well as a photographer. I trained at the Aveda Arts and Sciences Institute of Houston and currently work as a stylist at Kaleido Hair in Kingwood. I can do soft glam, full glam, or a polished hair style before the session and then shoot when you are at your most confident. One artist for the entire look means a cohesive result and no logistics-juggling between two vendors.

Absolutely — engagement sessions are one of the most popular reasons couples book the Connection package. Your gallery includes high-resolution files made for print, so save-the-date cards, wedding signage, framed wall pieces, and a feature on your wedding website are all fully supported. Many couples set aside a few favorites just for the about-us section.
